Gone are the days of boring leftover Bubble & Squeak. I may have been raised in Spain, but I grew up eating Bubble & Squeak just the same. For those of you who have no idea what I’m talking about, and before we dive into the delicious food that we ate at Bubble &, let’s dig a bit deeper into the origin of this intriguing British dish. Bubble & Squeak is a traditional English dish which was originally made to use up leftovers. The name comes from those little noises that came from the cabbage during the cooking process.

Bubble & Squeak brings back some beautiful memories, of standing in the kitchen as a little girl beside my mum. This dish was such a family favourite, that we even went on to name our twin canaries Bubble & Squeak, (Ingenious I know).

Being able to visit Bubble& in Amersham with my mum, was an incredible experience. Amersham holds a special place in both our hearts. As it was the town were my mum was born and raised, and continues to be my grandparents home town. Bubble& definitely tugs on the heart strings, bringing back happy childhood memories.

About Bubble&:

Bubble& is run by husband and wife duo, Rupert and Marita. Winners of two Great Taste Awards and stars of BBC2’s Million Pound Menu. We had the pleasure of chatting to Marita on our visit, and it was wonderful to learn more about their incredible story. How they went from selling their wonderful dishes at events, food stands and markets to having their own space within the bar area of chef Atul Kocchar Amersham restaurant Hawkyns, all whilst raising two young children. Power couple if you ask me!

My thoughts:

Let’s just say I will never look at Bubble & Squeak in the same way. The intense flavours bursting from the dishes were incredible with something for everyone on the menu. I also found the prices to be really reasonable considering the quality of ingredients, and it’s location within the old town of Amersham. They also offer a lunch time menu with dishes starting at just £4, as well as a great menu for kids with dishes like their Mini Bubble & Squeak, Penne Pasta, Crispy Halloumi and Mini Tikka Burger.

The cafe is open for lunch and dinner, from Monday to Sunday. We thoroughly enjoyed the main dishes we choose, with our favourite being the salmon. Ok, now on to my favourite part of the meal: Dessert! And probably one of the BEST things I’ve eaten all year. The Mango & Pinneaple Baked Alaska, a soft and gooey exterior, with a toffee like carrot cake in the centre.

The cafe has something for everyone with gluten-free, vegan and dairy free dishes. Bubble& I’m sure will quickly become a staple, after our long walks through Shardeloes and I can’t wait to go back and try their Tikka Burger.
